Again, the club dominated local events with SW A winning the premier division. Also, the Hampshire Junior A side after winning the Premier Division County Championship in 2007/8, fared well again in the 2008/9 season, and it must be noted that all team members were current or former SWTTC juniors. Club membership decreased as did the number of coaching sessions and teams in the local league, although SWTTC still remained one of the largest and active clubs in the south. The club continues to promote table tennis in the Southampton area at all levels and for all ages and aims to source its teams from local players.
A skittles evening was held in the spring and Open Practice continues to be supported by club members, players from other clubs and newcomers. The annual club tournament was held, as usual, for juniors and seniors at the end of the season, culminating in a fun doubles’ event.
The AGM supported the committee’s proposal to consider moves to another venue and introduce a new programme of club events with a view to improving the club and increasing club membership. Having all activities at 1 large, rather than 2 venues, should improve club administration and organisation.
SWTTC would like to encourage more players to enjoy table tennis and participate in its activities and events. |
